El Calafate (Argentina)

A friend and I spent almost a month hiking in Patagonia. We flew to Buenos Aires, and from there to El Calafate south in Argentina. The plan was to take a bus from there and over the border to Chile and the national park, Torres del Paine. We did however end up with an unvoluntary stop in El Calafate for a couple of days, as our luggage did not make it on the same plane as us from Buenos Aires. Apparently, the plane was too heavy to take all the luggage! :-)

So while we waited for our backpacks with our tent and all the gear, we got to explore the area around El Calafate a bit. We ended up beeing happy about this delay in our trip, as the surroundings of this little city turned out to be quite impressive!

This area used to be at the bottom of the sea a looooooong time ago, and it was strange to walk around in the dry landscape seeing all the fossils.

After a couple of days, our gear arrived and we could leave the hotel and move into our tent that was going to be our home for the next weeks. It then felt like the trip was really starting!
