"Summer" in Røldal

Yesterday I was a short trip to Røldal to pick up som gear left there when I moved down from Hardangervidda. Long drive with a slow car that is in desperate need for a check-up at the cardoctor. But at least the sun was shining all day! And there is still plenty of snow for those of you who are keen on some skiing.

It still looks like Easter at Røldal Skisenter. Really a shame that they closed so early.

I only had my phone with me, so sorry for the poor picture quality...

First snow of the season

I woke up to this view the other day:

Just a little frosting on the top, but still... A new ski season is coming closer!!! :-)

PS, can you believe this is the view from my bedroom window!? How lucky am I!??!?!

Saudasvingen in Røldal

"Saudasvingen" is a popular area for great offpiste skiing in Røldal. You take the lifts all the way to the top and ski across the mountain on the southwest side before you get to the area that takes to down to the winterclosed road to Sauda. Now there is also a bus going back up to the skilift, which makes it easy to take several runs during one day.

Over Easter there was also a cross country track going on the snow covered road to Sauda, so we decided to try this on a lazy day.

A bit strange to go skiing along roadsigns...

View towards the new development in Røldal with cabins and flats. I got my own flat here this winter and I LOVE it!!

Røldalssåto

I spent Easter in Røldal and one of the days we skied to Røldalssåtå, 1422 meters high. We took the charilift with the Beard on our lap and then held her in my arms the last lift (was quite heavy at the end...) and then skied from the top of the lifts. There were tracks the whole way, so we could have used toothpick skis instead of randonne. On the way home however, it was great with fat skis and we left the track and skied home via Saudasvingen.

The tracks were like a massive highway to ski on - perfect for toothpick skis. Silly that we were wearing the exact oposite... :-)

It was nice and sunny the whole time and I couldn't resist throwing my jumper. Of course I'd forgotten sunscreen, so got a little bit burned.

Funny to look down at Røldal as a little green spot inbetween the snow covered mountains.

Snønuten in May

This has been a weird winter and spring, and I haven't been at my cabin in Suldal since October. Not good! Trips have been planned and cancelled several times, but this weekend we finally made it! Not a lot of snow at the start, but plenty further up. We had to carry the skis the first part before there was enough snow to start skiing.

We stopped at the cabin to drop off our backpacks and have some lunch outside in the sun and then we continued to Snønuten.

A bit more cloudy on our way home today and even more snow had melted. I guess it is just a few more weeks, and I can hike all the way up to the cabin. Summer is coming!!! :-)

Røldal - Haukeliseter - Haukelifjell

Today has just been the most perfect day! I woke up to this view from my bedroom window:

After a nice breakfast with freshly baked bread, we headed off to Røldal and had a couple of hours of downhill skiing in perfect conditions.

Then we went back home to Haukeliseter for a good lunch and put our toothpick skiis on and skied from Haukeliseter to Haukelifjell in perfect conditions. Sun from a clear blue sky and hardly any wind.

The Beard was the perfect dog and pulled me the whole time, doing a really good job. It was just as the smile on my face got stuck!

When we came to Haukelifjell, we didn´t bother to ski back to Haukeliseter, instead we went for a cold beer in the sun. Even the Beard came along to the pub! (no worries, she just had some water!).

Then a good colleague came and picked us up and took us back to Haukeliseter and now we are on our way to a dinner feast. Doesn´t get better than this! :-)))))

Hope everyone is enjoying your Easter, where ever in the world you are!

Easter at Haukeliseter

Easter is here again and Haukeliseter is full of happy guests. I´m working a few days before I take my Easter break in Røldal, but of course I get to squeeze in a little skiing between office hours. The weather hasn´t been great the last few days and the road has been closed again due to wind, but this afternoon was ok, so we took a short ski trip.

Sveigen seen from the East side.

The Beard is shaking about trying to get her cover off, but it doesn't work...

Skiing in the sunshine!

Finally, the weather has turned and we have enjoyed great days of skiing. The Beard is happy to be running around again and I am happy to be able to see something...

I've misplaced the chargers for my cameras, again, so only iPhone photos these days unfortunaltey.
